The Secret Path

The film was made for the CBS
network in the summer of 1998.
We recreated Tennessee quite successfully
in a park northwest of Toronto
and a few of the old buildings nearby.
The cast of Della Reese, Ossie Davis and
Crystal Bernard were a joy to work with.
The Zima sisters, who played the main character
at different ages, did a marvellous job.

Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron

A letter from Kurt Vonnegut

Dear Bruce Pittman – There was a time, and not very long ago either, when your version of Harrison Bergeron, and John Glasgow’s and Sean Astin’s and so on, would have been something for all of us to chortle and cackle and preen ourselves about for a couple of years at least. It would have caused an international sensation. So you deserve to feel terribly cheated, and you can expect to be cheated again and again. I myself was lucky enough to experience a young adulthood in which it was possible to wow a major fraction of an intelligent population with a work of art, even one poem, even one picture. Thanks to the miracle of modern communications, all works of art are stirred into an enormous bowl of undifferentiated oatmeal. So glee and satisfaction on the part of creators of something as marvelous as the film Harrison Bergeron, to which my own contribution was ghostly at best, are private, family matters. The neighbors don’t know about it, and, as the saying goes, “have other fish to fry.”

God bless you, Bruce Pittman

Neon Rider

As usual, something funny happens
on the set of Neon Rider.
The gentleman is behind the camera is our operator, Joel Ransom, who went on to be the Director of Photography on the acclaimed Band of Brothers.

Below are some polaroid "gag" shots
from the production of Neon Rider

Above is the cast of Maniac Mansion.
It was a Lucas Film production named
by Time Magazine as one of the 10 Best TV shows of the year.

Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II

The film was generally panned and ignored (although it did make a profit).
It did however get two "rave" reviews - from the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
So who knows?

Elwy Yost &

Elwy Yost and Bruce Pittman co-created Saturday Night at the Movies, the long running show on the TVO network. Bruce produced, directed and co-wrote the first three seasons and supervised the Los Angeles interviews for another three years. The two are still good friends.
Elwy really is "the man who loved the movies".

The above left is a picture of John Frankenheimer and Bruce Pittman working on the documentary about Frankenheimer's directing and to the right is an article that appeared in
American Cinematographer magazine about Bruce's film about camera great Freddie Young.
